Obituary for Mariana 'Mica' Alvarez
Mariana ‘Mica’ Alvarez, age 82, went to her final rest on Monday, July 4, 2022.

Mariana was born April 28, 1940, in Mexico City, Mexico, daughter of the late Bernard Alvarez and the late Marion (Schumaker) Alvarez. At age 2 years, the family moved to Shorewood, Wisconsin. She attended school there elementary through high school. After graduation from high school, Mariana entered the SDS Convent. She made her vows as Sr. Frances Cabrini. She was in religious life for 13 years. During this time, she became an LPN. Later, she was employed in various medical facilities in Wausau and Merrill, Wisconsin and then in Glendale, California for 27 years. She still has many friends there. She then returned to the Wausau area.

Mariana enjoyed travelling and had many cross-country trips visiting family and friends. She also enjoyed time at: the ocean, the mountains, Sequoia, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Arizona, Vancouver, Washington, and Monterrey, Mexico.

Mariana is survived by her brother, Michael (Joni) Alvarez; sisters, Elena Villanueva and Jay Tipton (Steve); sister-in-law, Terry (Doty Webb) Alvarez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Marion Alvarez; brother, Gregory Alvarez; niece, Carol; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She had several close friends and will be missed. Mariana had several health issues and difficulties but always remained optimistic looking forward to what was to come. She loved her cats, the last one Maculya was her constant companion.

Mariana’s final wishes were for no services at this time. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
