Obituary for Joan Ellen Lukes
Joan E. Lukes, 85, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital, Merrill.
She was born July 11, 1935 daughter of the late Erwin and Mabel (Woller) Koehler. Joan married Victor J. Lukes on June 3, 1953. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2007. Joan was a farm wife in the Town of Scott, and had also worked at Dave’s County Market, Merrill. Joan was an active member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. She enjoyed baking and also submitting her baked goods for competition at the Lincoln County Fair. Joan also enjoyed cooking, gardening, polka music, dancing, playing cards, and socializing with family and friends.
Joan is survived by one daughter, Laurie Humphrey (fiancé, Rick Burns) of Merrill; one son, Steven Lukes (fiancé, Michelle Ellenbecker) of Abbotsford; seven grandchildren, Bobbie Jo, Leah, Logan, Riley, Morgan, Kaitlin, and Zandria; and five great grandchildren, Chase, Carsyn, Finlee, Justice, and Levi. Besides her parents and husband, Joan is preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Lukes; and five siblings, Luella (Wilbert) Storm, Rosella (Morris) Moyer, Ervin (Mildred and Lauretta) Koehler, Myron (Jane) Koehler, and Kenneth Koehler.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Lucas Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday at the church. MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE CHURCH.
