Obituary for Wilmer B. Thurs
Wilmer B. Thurs, age 89, of the Town of Hamburg, Marathon County, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Wilmer was born March 9, 1927, in the Town of Hamburg, son of the late Gustav and Gertrude (Mueller) Thurs. He married Alladine Wilde on April 10, 1948, in Rib Falls, WI. She survives. Wilmer and Alladine dairy farmed in Hamburg. Wilmer loved work horses, dogs and cattle. He enjoyed running around the back 80 acres with his 4-wheeler, making firewood, listening to polka music and reading. Wilmer was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg, and served on the church council. He also served with the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department. Wilmer and Alladine enjoyed taking many trips after retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Alladine Thurs of Hamburg; two daughters, Marlene (Wayne) Teske of Merrill and Kathie (Dennis) Smith of Tomahawk; four sons, Lyle (Susan) Thurs of Hamburg, Ivan Thurs of Hamburg, Kenneth Thurs of Lublin, WI and Randy Thurs of Hamburg; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Norman Thurs of Merrill, Harvey (Mavis) Thurs of Schofield and Elgart Thurs of Hamburg; one sister-in-law, Iris Thurs of Wausau; and several nieces and nephews. Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Gertrude Thurs; two great-granddaughters, Harper Knaack and Ryley Smith; two daughters-in-law, Sandy (Mrs. Ivan) Thurs and Sandy (Mrs. Randy) Thurs; one brother, Orville Thurs; and one sister-in-law, Shirley (Mrs. Elgart) Thurs.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Pastor Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Saturday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
