Obituary for Steven R. Olson
Steven R. Olson, age 69, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at his home of natural causes.
Steve was born April 12, 1951 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin son of the late Ray and Doris Olson. He married Laurie Wendland on July 1, 1978. She survives. Steve attended Merrill Senior High School and graduated in 1969. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October of 1969 and was stationed in Vietnam. He became leading seaman, cook and hatch captain until his honorable discharge in February of 1972 as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. Steve worked for over 30 years as an Electronics Technician at Merrill House of Music. Steve was a loving, devoted husband and father. He enjoyed camping, traveling, going to Packer and Brewer games with his family. Steve also enjoyed many years playing softball, horse shoes, and bowling with his buddies.
Survivors include his wife Laurie Olson, Merrill; his daughter, Abbie (Josh) Lange, Merrill; his son Bryan (Jessica) Olson, Stevens Point; his sister, Kerry (Richard) Prosser, Elkhorn; and three brothers, James (Molly) Olson, Oshkosh, Greg (Mary) Olson, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Ken Olson, Merrill. Besides his parents, Steve is preceded in death by a sister, Judy Haxton.
A private family memorial celebration will be held at a later date. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill is assisting the family.
