Obituary for Solange V. North
Solange Anderson North, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Woodland Court Assisted Living in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Solange was born in Ambercrombie, North Dakota on November 16, 1923 to Albert and Germaine Anderson. The family ran a restaurant diner in the little town. Eventually the family moved to Barnesville, Minnesota and ran a corner grocery store. After high school, Solange returned to North Dakota where she paid for her Bachelor's Degree at U of N Grand Forks in Teaching and took a job in her field at Perm, Minnesota. Solange met and married, Winfred North and worked as an executive secretary and personal assistant in a large corporation located in Louisville, Kentucky prior to returning to Minot, North Dakota where they raised their 2 children, Michele and John. At that time, Solange was a stay at home Mom, but a brief stint in Iowa provided her with a Master's Degree in Business Law and she resumed teaching. In the late 60's, the family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where Solange took a teaching position at Appleton Fox Valley Technical Institute. Here, she was instrumental in developing their Business Law program as well as writing a book that organized this program across the nation's technical schools.
Retiring in 1989, Solange and Win became snowbirds and split their time at the lake home in Shawano, Wisconsin and their condo in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Upon her husband’s death in 1994, Solange became a permanent Arizona resident. She took several trips to Europe and traveled several times a year to visit family in Wisconsin and Idaho. Solange took up residence in Sandpoint, Idaho at Luther Park Assisted Living to be close to her daughter. Eventually, she moved to Woodland Court in Merrill to be close to her son.
Solange was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Germaine Anderson; and husband, Winfred North. She is survived by her two children, John North and Michele North Shay (husband, Brian Shay); her 6 grandchildren, Jonathon and Michael North, Brian Jr, Brandon, Stephen and Matthew Shay; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Solange Anderson North - Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Teacher, Friend - incomparable in all areas of Life. Her spirit, her resourcefulness, her spunk, her caring heart will be greatly missed.
