Shirley C. Hinz, 69, of the Town of Scott, Lincoln County, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Shirley was born March 31, 1954, in Merrill, daughter of the late Norman and Rita (Gano) Benson. She married Earl ‘Butch’ Hinz, Jr. on October 25, 1980, in Merrill. He survives. Shirley ran an in-home daycare program for over sixteen years. She had also worked at Merrill Child Care and Parkside Preschool. She watched her grandchildren until 2020. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking; she always had goodies ready for visitors. She also enjoyed reading, taking walks, and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Earl ‘Butch’ Hinz, Jr of the Town of Scott; daughters, Tami (Chad) Travis of Merrill and Jennifer (Douglas) Nacker of Wausau; sons, Jon Hinz of Merrill and William (Lela) Hinz of Merrill; twelve grandchildren, Kaitlin (Cole) Sczygelski, Emily (Alex) Klug, Rachel Travis (Nathan Beyer), Damian Wendorf, Evan Nacker, Trenton Nacker, Charlotte Nacker, Hazel Nacker, Carter Hinz, Kirklin Hinz, Ben Bowser-Utech, and Willie Hinz; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry (Daniel) Hodkiewicz of Merrill; and brother-in-law, David (Diane) Hinz of Hamburg. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Rita Benson; granddaughter, Megan Travis; brothers, Mark Benson and her twin, infant Larry Benson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl Hinz Sr. and Virginia Hinz; and sister-in-law, Mary Raasch.
The funeral service for Shirley will take place at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. David Szeto will officiate. The burial will take place in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott. The visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
