Obituary for Roy L. Strohm
Roy L. Strohm, 88, formerly of Merrill, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at his daughter’s home in Sturgeon Bay, under the care of his family and hospice services.
Roy was born August 21, 1931, in Oshkosh, WI, son of the late Roy Strohm and Ethel Grant. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Ralph Sosinski. Roy married Emilie Plautz on May 4, 1957 in Merrill. She preceded him in death on August 6, 2019. After graduating from high school, Roy was drafted into the United States Army. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged and awarded a Purple Heart. After serving an apprenticeship, he became a tool and die maker. Roy enjoyed hunting and fly fishing, woodworking, and vegetable gardening.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Julie (James) Condra of Sturgeon Bay; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Condra, Andrew (Erin) Condra, Mark (Josephine) Condra, Michael Condra, Hannah Condra, David Condra, and Jonathan Condra; four great-grandchildren, Athena, Roman, Sage, and Violet; sister, Beverly Drahn of Bessemer, MI; sister-in-law, Leora Plautz Rash of Pennsylvania; and brothers-in-law, Richard (Darlene) Plautz and Roger (Patsy) Plautz both of Merrill. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Emilie; mother and step-father, Ethel and Ralph Sosinski; father, Roy Strohm; sister, Shirley Miller; brother, Leslie Sosinski; sister-in-law, Marion Plautz Cossar; and brother-in-law, Charles Plautz.
The funeral service for Roy will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. James Condra, his son-in-law, will lead the service. Entombment will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
