Obituary for Phyllis Ruth Ney
Phyllis Ruth (Matthiae) Ney, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Mount View Care Center in Wausau.

Phyllis was born May 14, 1929 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Herman and Evelyn (Guhl) Matthiae. She married Walter Ney on April 10, 1948 in Gleason. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2001. Phyllis and Walter had dairy farmed in the Town of Schley. Phyllis also worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Merrill for 35 years, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed bowling and traveled frequently for state tournaments. Phyllis was a member of the ‘600 Club’ and was also inducted into the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame. After retiring, Phyllis worked for the Lincoln County Commission on Aging delivering Meals on Wheels, providing rides, and medical escorts.

Phyllis is survived by three children, Dan Ney of Gleason, Nancy Strasser of Schofield, and Ken Ney of Merrill; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Gina) Strasser of Rib Mountain, Jeremy Ney of Idaho, Heather (Drew) Schultz of Washington, Robert Ney of Gleason, and Eric (Jackie) Ney of Merrill; nine great grandchildren, Desiree, Sabrina, and Damian Strasser of Wausau, Kizziah Ney of Idaho, Kai, Athena, and Jayden Schultz of Washington, and Zander and Caleb Ney of Merrill; three step grandchildren, Christopher Brummel of Florida, and Anthony and Ryan Giovanoni of Wausau; one sister, Sally (Butch) Tesch of Merrill; and three brothers, Ralph (Gwen) Matthiae of North Carolina, Douglas Matthiae of Iowa, and Dennis (Donna) Matthiae of Merrill. Besides her parents and husband, Phyllis is preceded in death by two siblings, Arlene and Ronald.

The funeral will begin at 12:00 Noon Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Lucas Williams will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Merrill Memorial Park Columbarium. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
