Obituary for Nellie M. Reed
Nellie M. Reed, 98, of Merrill, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Nellie was born June 2, 1922, in Langlade County, daughter of the late Philip Arthur and Lottie (Fralick) Pond. She worked for many years at the National Lock Company in Rockford, Illinois. Nellie was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading, and playing cards and games.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Gitchell of Rockford, Illinois; son, Victor (Debbie) Jewell of Gleason; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur and Lottie Pond; daughter and son-in-law, Alta and Dennis Koski; son-in-law, Frank Gitchell; sisters, Jean Prueser-Olson, Cora Wickham, and Lenita Litzen; and brothers, Norris, Louis, Stanley, James, Warren, and Leonard Pond.
Nellie’s funeral will begin at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at a later date in Gleason Cemetery, Town of Russell, Lincoln County.
