Obituary for Mark A. Hagedorn
Mark A. Hagedorn passed away on September 26, 2016 at the age of 59.
Mark Arthur Hagedorn, the son of Richard and Dolores (Wegner) Hagedorn, was born on March 8, 1957 in Merrill. He was baptized in the former St. James Church in the Town of Pine River, and was confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Merrill.
He was raised on the family farm in the Town of Pine River, attended Pine River Elementary School, Merrill Junior High and Merrill Senior High, graduating in 1975. Following graduation, he attended UW Marathon and UW Stevens Point.
He was a milk trucker for the Pine River Cheese Factory, a truck driver for A & P Pavers, a band instrument repair specialist, a dairy farmer (1984-1994), retiring in 2005 due to health problems.
Mark was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. He was an active participant in the Fair Stand, Lenten Fish Fries, Polka Services and other committees and activities.
Music was Mark’s forte. He played in the Junior and Senior High bands, the Jazz band, Merrill City Band and UWSP band.
He had a natural aptitude for music, was a versatile musician having many musical abilities and understood the many styles of music composition. He was proficient in playing many different instruments, his specialty being the tenor saxophone. He was a member of the Dick Richin’s Orchestra (his dad’s band) for which he arranged the musical compositions. He was also a member of the Jay Tlusty Variety Band and other dance bands in the area.
Mark was an active member of the Polka Club, Square Dance Club and the German Club.
He loved traveling on tour with the Dan Gruetzmacher Polka Band and the Polka Productions tours. His travels took him to all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and the Bahamas.
Mark was an avid reader, played a variety of card games, attended musical performances and watched sports on TV. He especially enjoyed football and professional wrestling.
Survivors include his father, Richard Hagedorn, Sr. of Merrill; his sister, Nancy (Phil) Woller of Plover; his brother, Daniel Hagedorn of Merrill; a nephew, Richard (Hannah) Hagedorn III of Madison; and his sister-in-law, Joan Hagedorn of Madison; and other relatives and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Hagedorn; and his brother, Richard Hagedorn, Jr.
The funeral services for Mark A. Hagedorn will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2016, at Holy Cross Chapel-Bell Tower Residence. The Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday at Holy Cross Chapel-Bell Tower Residence. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
