Obituary for Katherine 'Kathy' Gruett
Katherine T. ‘Kathy’ Gruett, 62, of Merrill, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born October 11, 1957, in Baraboo, WI, daughter of the late Raymond Walsh and Bernadine Abbs. She worked as a licensed Massage Therapist in the Wausau and Merrill areas. Kathy was a very devoted member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. She was involved with many facets of the church including the Outreach Team and the Property and Maintenance Committee. Kathy also volunteered with the MAC Home and had served as a board member since 2016. Kathy adored her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them. She also enjoyed quilting with her cousin Vickie and her sisters, gardening, and spending time with her dog Lucy. Kathy also had a penchant for travel.
Survivors include her sons, Dustin (Rachel) Gruett of Merrill and Daniel Gruett of Madison; four grandchildren, Isaiah, Samuel, Benjamin and Elliana; step-father, Tom Roundy of Baraboo; sisters, Raymonda (Bill) Blank of Lyndon Station, WI, and Lisa Burckhardt of Baraboo; brothers, Bernard Walsh of Merrill, Kevin Walsh of Elroy, WI, Tim (Debbie) Walsh of Sauk City, WI, and David Roundy of Muskegon, MI; brother-in-law, Edward Gruett of Merrill; and nieces and nephews, Nicole Gruett, Tim Schallberg, Heidi Schallberg, Becky Blank, Andy Blank, Kara Sue Burckhardt, and Jacob Walsh. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Bernadine Abbs; former husband; Carl Gruett; brother, Thomas Roundy; sisters-in-law, Kristine Gruett and Kay Marie Gruett; and nephews, Erik Gruett and Jeremy Soelle.
The memorial service for Kathy will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Patricia Schutz will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to MAC Home, St. Vincent de Paul, or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill.
