Obituary for Joyce A. Vreeke
Joyce A. Vreeke, age 86, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Woodland Court Elder Services in Merrill, WI.
Joyce was born December 23, 1933 in Sheboygan, daughter of the late Reuben and Laura (Herwig) Groene. She was baptized on January 21, 1934. On July 25, 1953 Joyce married Vilas E. Vreeke. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2018. Joyce had been employed at a Sheboygan area grocery store for many years. After retiring Vilas and Joyce built a home on Waubee Lake in the Lakewood, Wisconsin area. They enjoyed many years of ‘living on the water’. Joyce enjoyed her job at the grocery store and the opportunity to visit with customers. Joyce was an excellent cook, especially her ‘German Potato Salad’. She possessed a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories. Joyce enjoyed her gardening and also raising flowers. Joyce loved her family and for many years she dressed as Santa at Christmas for her beloved grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Vicki (John) Kuester, Merrill; two sons, Jeff (Betty) Vreeke, New Mexico, and David Vreeke, Plymouth, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Justin, Eric, Adam, Tim, Lindsay, and Josh; and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Sloane, and Quinn. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son, Vilas A. Vreeke; and sisters, Darlene Vreeke and Connie Skelton.
A Memorial Service for Joyce A. Vreeke will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. Monday at the church. Social distancing and masks will be required. Inurnment will take place later this month in The Lutheran Cemetery, Sheboygan. Reverend Colin Moon of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, will officiate. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
