Obituary for James A. Roth

James A. Roth, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016, at home, in Merrill, under the care of hospice.

Jim was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 24th, 1933, to Richard and Esther Roth. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. After completing his service, Jim returned to Milwaukee where he worked for the railroad and then was a watch repairman. He spent the next 12 years as a Milwaukee County deputy sheriff. He married Leesa White in 1976 and they moved from Oak Creek, Wisconsin to Merrill in 1981. Upon moving to Merrill he took up hobby farming and gardening. He also worked as an engraver at Wausau Awards and Engraving until he retired. He took pride in his vegetable garden often providing vegetables to his friends, family, neighbors, and strangers while still freezing and canning enough for the winter. Jim also appreciated the outdoors including taking trips to the Roth family hunting cabin in Cornucopia, Wisconsin. He also enjoyed his family, walking, deer hunting, camping and fishing. Throughout his experiences Jim maintained his honesty, hard work ethic, and overall his sense of humor. He is loved and will be missed.

Jim is survived by his wife Leesa; sons Dave and Darin (Sheila), and his daughters Romaine Perian and Becky Roth (Ryder Will); his brothers Rich and Fred; and his sisters Mary Anne Oestreich and Jean Wonsewicz; and his seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Esther; sister Pat; his children Renee, Daniel and Rachel; and his grandson Robert.

Services will begin at 1:00PM on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. The Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will take place in Snow Hill Cemetery, town of Scott. Following the interment, there will be a dessert potluck at St. Stephen's in honor of Jim's sweet tooth. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
