Obituary for Grace M. Barney
Grace M. Barney, age 88, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, under the care of her loving family and the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Grace was born August 16, 1928, in Antigo, daughter of the late Oscar and Isabelle (Lemmer) Hanson. She married David L. Barney, Sr. on February 18, 1950. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1992. Prior to her marriage, Grace worked at Merrill Candy Company and Coon’s Lodge. She served as a waitress all her married life. Grace had waitressed at the Badger Hotel, Riverside Club, Club 64, and Club Modern all in Merrill, the Town House in Wausau, and the Holiday Inn Supper Club in Minocqua. Grace enjoyed knitting and quilting for her family, and spending time at the family cabin up north.
Grace is survived by four daughters, Linda (James) Pierce, Tina (Bruce) Hipke, and Dixie Oberg, all of Merrill, and Michelle (Kevin) Kniess, Verona, WI; one son, David L. (Marcy) Barney, Jr., Merrill; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, with one on the way; one sister, Patty Hopper, Merrill; one brother, Richard ‘Buddy’ (Loretta) Hanson, Gleason; and two sisters in law, Barbara Hanson, Merrill, and Patricia Hanson, Gleason.
Besides her husband and parents, Grace is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Gerri Lynn Barney; son in law, Steve Oberg; two sisters, Isabelle Chamberlin and Betty Lemke; two brothers, Ole Hanson and Oscar ‘Pinky’ Hanson; and three brothers in law, Ralph Hopper, LaVern Lemke, and Clarence Chamberlin.
A visitation for Grace will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Burial will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Tomahawk. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
