Obituary for Gertrude L. Schulz
Gertrude Schulz, age 90, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Gertrude was born January 12, 1926, to the late Fred and Adelia Schmidt. She married Paul Schulz on October 27, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill by Rev. William Kohn Sr. They were married 61 years. He passed away on October 15, 2006. Gertrude worked at Merrill Box Factory, Merrill Woolenware, Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Anson and Gilkey Company for over 14 years, and Peterson and Latzig Tree Farms during the winter season. Gertrude was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking for many parties, the church, and for S&S Bar for lunch each week. She also made bars and deserts for parties and picnics up north at Swamp Lake Resort where they had a trailer for 20 years. She and her husband enjoyed polka music, going on bus trips, and occasionally going to the casino. She also loved dancing at Schult’s Country Inn and other places. Gertrude and Paul went to Munich, Germany to see their grandson Mark Baumann and his wife Terri while Mark served in the Army. They also visited Killeen, Texas where Mark was stationed. No matter where Mark was, overseas or state-side, Gertrude baked cookies and candy for Christmas every year and sent them to him. He was her pride and joy from baby on. She had many good friends and neighbors. She was a loving and caring person.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandy (Gary) Hass, Merrill; grandson, Mark (Terri) Baumann, Killeen, TX; sister-in-law, Nina Schmidt, Wausau; and many other family members and friends.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schulz; one daughter, Judy Baumann; her parents; one sister, Janet (Elmer) Nelson; and two brothers, Lyndon and Donald Schmidt.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Burial will take place in Springbrook Cemetery, Town of Pine River. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service, Tuesday at the funeral home. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
