
Obituary for George G. Mielke
George G. Mielke, age 82, of Merrill, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at Wausau Manor.
George was born February 22, 1934, in Minnesota, to the late Kurt and Erna (Kruschinski) Mielke. He married Evelyn Beyer on June 11, 1955 in Town of Doering, WI. She survives. George attended Douglas County Grade School in St. Paul, MN. He then attended Sunny Slope Grade School in the Town of Summit, Langlade County for three years. He graduated from Antigo High School in 1951. After high school George worked at Semling-Menke from 1951 – 1952. He then went to Ward Paper Company, where he worked from 1952 until his retirement in 1994. He also worked part time for Knispel-Latzig Company from 1965 – 1985. George entered the U.S. Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. George was a member at St. John Lutheran Church. He took an active role in the church by serving as an Elder for 24 years, an usher for 55 years, the financial secretary for 2 years, the evangelism committee for 4 years, and the finance committee for 5 years. George enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports, including the Badgers, Bucks, Brewers and Packers. He also enjoyed tending to his garden, camping, ice fishing, and playing cribbage with his wife every day.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Merrill; two sons, Greg Mielke (with, Michele Pluta), of Windsor, WI, and David (Marybeth) Mielke, of Hartland, WI; four grandchildren, Blake, Taylor, Brock and Megan Mielke, of Hartland, WI; one sister, Carol (James) Leopold, of Wausau; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Mielke and Lillian McGurn.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Kurt and Erna Mielke; one brother, Ralph Mielke; and one brother-in-law, Fred McGurn.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M on Monday, June 6, 2016, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again from noon on Tuesday at church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
