Obituary for Elaine K. Sukow
Elaine K. Sukow, 97, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022, due to natural causes.
Elaine was born on June 15, 1924, to the late Katherine (Bloechl) and Harry Doering, she grew up and lived in the Merrill area all her life.
Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved children, Russell Sukow and Michelle Sukow; loving husband of 77 years, Lester Sukow; sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Kanitz; brothers, Roy (Nancy) Doering and Norbert Doering; and parents, Katherine and Harry Doering. Elaine will be greatly missed by her family which includes her children, Sidney (Eva) Sukow and Brian (Linda) Sukow; daughter-in-law, Cecilia Sukow; grandchildren, Lori (Tom) Munson, Carrie (Dan) Barz, Cammie (Dave) Pankow, and Amy (Russ) Kitsembel; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Harry (Joyce) Doering; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine worked various jobs throughout her life and was an intricate part of running and operating Les’s Sports Shop with her husband Les, but none of these were more important than caring for her daughter, Michelle.
Elaine liked clipping recipes from magazines, writing stories and poetry about the past, writing letters and sending cards to family and friends. She worked daily at ‘Seek-a-Word’ puzzles which kept her mind sharp. Music was a big part of Elaine’s life, she played a variety of musical instruments and enjoyed listening to polka music on the radio. She was a life-long sports fan and enjoyed watching the boys play sports as well as watching baseball and football on TV. Having a daily cocktail was important to her.
A funeral liturgy for Elaine will be held at 12:00 p.m., noon, on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Elaine’s family would like to thank Aspirus Hospice and Pine Crest Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave to Elaine, especially Heather.
