Obituary for Dorothy Mae Rahlf

Dorothy Mae Rahlf, 98, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Dorothy was born April 12, 1918, in Merrill, daughter of the late John and Ida (Hartwig) Severt, Sr. She married Wesley Rahlf on October 5, 1940. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2006. Dorothy had worked at Quality Print in Merrill as a supervisor. She was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Dorothy enjoyed working on very detailed crochet projects and small knitting projects. She loved spending time outdoors and her favorite pastime was taking walks. Dorothy and Wesley traveled extensively, spending time in every state except Hawaii. She loved to take fishing and blueberry picking trips to Canada, and spending time at their cottage on Lake Nakomis, as well as making firewood on their land in Newwood. Dorothy was a very kindhearted caregiver who always helped out with her nieces and nephews and other family members. She was a loving wife to Wesley for 65 years, a wonderful mother, and friend to all.

Survivors include her son, Roger (Bonnie) Rahlf of Green Bay; several nieces and nephews including her very special niece and nephew, Barb Pophal and Tony Kulawinski. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Rahlf; her parents, John and Ida Severt, Sr.; and her siblings, Helen Jaeger, Gayle Kulawinski, Donald ‘Bud’ Severt and John ‘Jack’ Severt, Jr.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill, for their compassionate and loving care of Dorothy.

A private funeral service was held.
