Albert C. Herdt, 94 of Merrill, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Albert was born June 22, 1929, in Merrill, son of the late John and Marie (Reichert) Herdt. He married Dawn Bellin on September 4, 1954, in the Town of Pine River, Lincoln County. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2009. Albert enlisted in the United States Army on January 17, 1952, during the Korean War. He was stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged on October 16, 1953, as a Corporal in Artillery and had served as a Gunner.

Albert worked as a residential carpenter for Schield & Schmidt Construction and Taschler Construction. During this time, he also had a cattle farm. Albert liked woodworking and made several grandfather clocks. He also enjoyed constructing beautiful masonry fireplaces. He loved helping everyone and could always be relied on. Albert enjoyed hunting rabbits, partridges, and deer. For many years, the hunting gang’s meeting spot was Albert and Dawn’s house. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening. Albert had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a witty comeback.
